KNIPPA, Texas - Fifteen undocumented migrants were found in a train car East of Knippa on Highway 90 Friday evening.

Dozens of first responders, including Border Patrol, responded to the scene.

The Uvalde Police Department said they received a 911 call from an unknown caller around 3:50 p.m. Friday.

The caller stated that there were "numerous undocumented migrants were suffocating inside of a train car."

The United States Border Patrol was informed and was able to stop the train two to three miles east of Knippa, Texas.

Authorities state that a total of 15 migrants were inside that needed immediate medical attention. Three migrants were treated on scene, five of the migrants were airlifted to San Antonio area hospitals, five were taken to local hospitals and two migrants were deceased.

The three migrants treated on the scene were taken into custody by border patrol officials.

Five were flown to the San Antonio area hospital.

Two migrants were transported to University Hospital and are both in critical condition.

The conditions are unknown for the three that were flown to the San Antonio area hospital.

“On March 24, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) responded to a call from local law enforcement in the Medina County area regarding a train incident that occurred in Knippa, Texas. At this time, HSI is looking at the possibility of human smuggling. No further details can be provided at this time," said Homeland Security Investigations Spokesperson Nina Pruneda.

The Uvalde Police Department says that Highway 90 re-opened at 6:45 p.m. and Union Pacific will lead the investigation.
